Design Systems London 2019 - Sue Andor
15 November 2019
- What is an expert user
- part and parcel of an organisation’s operation - staff / partner / middleman
- Have subject matter expertise
- Use a digital interface
- An expert user = seen as internal staff
- We’ve come a long way with Design Systems but not for internal staff.
- Can’t we just use our existing Design System?
- A sensible choice perhaps.
- Saves some money.
- But does it work?
- Is the context design agnostic?
- A food delivery service has different contexts that the user and the rider need so the design should be different
- A judge does not ‘tick boxes’ so the GDS one form element for one page does not work for the judicial service
- How do you create a design system while developing a product
- inputs are as important as outputs..
- include research in your design system.
- Link research to user stories within your early design system.
- Include UX - information architecture.
- Include UI components and elements.
- A single source of truth for design decisions.
- Design for internal users improves ROI.
